Firstly, awesome work @Damien image uploads appear to be working!

This is the original Sega Saturn prototype shell/enclosure. This first appeared at the winter CES of 1994 and pictures appeared in magazines after. It’s rather small compared to the retail unit (shown side by side in one of the attached images), and certainly would not have accommodated the VA0 mainboard and CD drive. I rather like the shape though. The concavity kind of reminds me of the XB360 ‘inhale’ design theme... and whether intentional or not that black inverted trapezoid is somewhat ... pubic ?

The design patent has expired but the image in that document is near identical with the exception of no cart slot.

It looks pretty sleek, it also reminds me of the 360's concave design. Would have been great if they could have made it that small as the Saturn was a bit of a brick.

It was ... quite dense  Looking at how jam packed the motherboard is though I'm amazed they fit everything in.

Indeed, still remains one of my favourite systems though, despite the fact it was a flop on a commercial level. :)

see my collection posting where you can see the progression Sega made with the Saturn shell.

I'm still curious why there were two spots on the bottom of sample shell whereas on the launching Saturn there's single spot for the label...
