So here i want to share my work on my Cross VCD Saturn.
First at all the Cross Saturn normaly have a switch where you can change the region for the CD-ROM.
Unlikely when it comes to unsigned code, homebrew CD-R and so is no option for running such discs.
So first i used Pseudo Saturn flashing my AR cart to run. But than you lose your AR with the backup Manager and code function.
So i was thinking about installing an Phantom Chip.
Im not sure if the Cross Saturn playes betas without the system disc? Because its like a normal Saturn? Dont have a saturn beta to test.
Anyways like for the PS1, a chip will be fix this.
So i got today my chip from Bad_ad84 (thanks man!) and tryed to installed it.
First at all i was thinking i can place the chip over the cross vcd pcb. But than the uper case will not fit any more because the cd tray...
Normaly you place it where the VCD pcb is so i had to find another place.
Then i choose the ext tray under the shield where the bios battery is.
It fits but you have to remove the loose plastic tray. The next problem was the interface slot from the ext bay. The chip pushes on it, so i had to replace it.
The problem is the ribbon cable will not fit any more when you put the chip more to the end of the bay.
So i used my dremel and cut a long hole in the metal shield to get the ribbon cable across.
After that anything fits perfect!
The ribbon cable to the VCB pcb is a little bit short but its ok. Maybe i replace it for better cable managmend, when i found one..
After that i put anything together again.
The Phantom works great through the cross pcb. You have to choose option 4 on the switch.
Here some picture of the work:
